Resources for Amputees
www.waramps.ca/nac/home.html Upon request the War Amps will send you a free package of information that was extremely helpful to me. They send you a large package including booklets about phantom limb pain, types of prosthetics, care of your amputated limb, getting back to work and driving your car. Excellent website.
www.aasra.ab.ca This is the website of The Alberta Sport and Recreation Association. In addition to providing information to amputees interested or involved in sports they offer support group meetings to all amputees.
 | | Phantom Limb Pain
| It was six months after my below the knee surgery and I was still suffering from more phantom limb pain than I was willing to |
| | accept. I was also not willing to take drugs all day long so I asked the head of Rehab at my hospital what can we do? He told me they were trying something called Mirror Therapy and that some amputees felt relief. I was given the protocol and I'm happy to report that I did get enough relief that I only have to take a small amount of pain meds. This is the protocol I was given for single leg, below the knee amputees. I have added some additional exercises that I find helpful. Perhaps you can research other protocols if you are not a below the knee amputee. Click here for the protocol..........Nicola
